Engagement Ring Styles and Settings

The term "setting" refers to the manner in which gemstones are set into a metal band. The purpose of the ring setting is to enhance the radiance of an engagement diamond. Style is the overall look that the ring setting makes, whether it's a solitaire, halo, or three-stone setting.

The term "setting" refers to the manner in which gemstones are set into a metal band. The purpose of the ring setting is to enhance the radiance of an engagement diamond. Style is the overall look that the ring setting makes, whether it's a solitaire, halo, or three-stone setting.

Prong Setting

The most frequent setting is the prong setting, which is usually coupled with the solitaire setting. A prong is a thin piece of metal, similar to a claw, that grabs and secures the diamond or gemstone. V-shaped, pointy, or rounded prongs are all possible.

A prong setting often has four or six prongs that bind the diamond to the ring. A four-prong setting highlights the diamond's brilliance by allowing more of it to be seen. A six-prong setup provides a bit more security.

Prong settings have a classic, clean appearance. They are easy to clean and maintain and will match any diamond form. Every few years, you may need to have the prongs inspected to ensure that they are still secure. Prong settings are used in many of our diamond rings and one-of-a-kind rings, with four little prongs keeping the gorgeously unusual stones in place.

Solitaire Setting

A solitaire setting is a piece of jewelry with only one stone and no other stones. This gives the impression of a streamlined design, with one stone taking center stage. It's a timeless style that's been around for millennia. The sleek design exudes a basic elegance that goes with any clothing and event.

A solitaire setting may accommodate a variety of diamond shapes and can be customized in terms of band thickness. The diamond will be elevated in a solitaire setting, allowing light to reach it and highlighting its brilliance and fire. They're also simple to clean and can give your home a classic charm.

Bezel Setting

The bezel setting is a conventional setting in which the stone is surrounded in a thin metal rim that is custom-made to retain the stone in place. The bezel setting protects the center diamond while also giving the ring a sleek, modern look. Bezel settings can be constructed in a solitaire form or with additional stones on either side or along the shank.

Pavé Setting

Holes are drilled into the ring or shank to position the diamonds in this pavé setting, which is identical to the channel setting. Then small metal beads with mini prongs are made to keep them in place. The result is a continual glistening look.

This setting can be used on the band with the larger center stone, or it can be utilized across the band. The pavé setting is common for promise or eternity rings, when a huge center stone is not required as much as it is in engagement rings.

Three Stone Setting

The three stone setting is exactly what it says on the tin: three stones placed tightly together. The three stones are said to symbolize the past, present, and future, making them an excellent choice for engagement rings.

The three stones can be the same size, although having a slightly larger center stone is popular. Because you're getting three diamonds instead of one, they're frequently more expensive than solitaire rings.

They're a terrific way to add a personal touch, such as a couple's birthstones on either side of a center diamond, or a meaningful colored gem. Any precious metal and diamond shape works well with the three stone setting. They also allow a lot of light to reach the stones, so the setting doesn't take away from the diamond's brilliance or fire.

Antique or Vintage Ring Setting

Rings with elaborate design within the metal work of a ring are frequently referred to be antique or vintage settings. They're made to look like vintage rings and jewelry; some will be genuine antiques, while others will be made to look like vintage pieces. Filigree is the method of coiling and bending tiny metal threads and beads into complex patterns to create intricate metal work along rings. Milgrain, which is the delicate edging of tiny holes or bumps around the margins of a pattern, may be found on other rings.

Because these techniques were prominent in pre-modern rings, they help a ring appear vintage or antique. An antique or vintage setting is a wonderful approach to creating a one-of-a-kind ring with personality. They come in a variety of diamond shapes and may include other little diamonds to complement the complex design.

Tension Setting

The tension setting is a unique setting where the diamond appears as if suspended between the sides of the band. They make rings look sleek and modern, and they're a wonderful talking point. The diamond's exact measurements is computed and tiny grooves are cut into the ring or shank's sides. The diamond is then inserted and held in place by the pressure of the band pressing against the stone's sides.

Because there is less metal surrounding the diamond or stone, the light can reach it more easily, allowing the diamond's brightness to shine through. Despite the fact that the tension settings appear to be risky, they are really safe and secure. The tension setting can be used with almost any diamond shape. So, if you're looking for something unique, this might be the place to go.

Channel Setting

Small diamonds in a row are placed into a groove or channel within the ring band or shank in the channel setting. This setting is snag-free because there are no prongs holding the diamonds in place, leaving everything smooth. A channel setting is similar to a pavé setting, but the diamonds are secured in the band with thicker metal. A channel setting can be used on either side of a center stone or as the focal point of a ring, wrapping around the entire band.

These are frequently given as anniversary gifts or as promise or eternity rings. A channel setting will give your ring more elegance and glitter than a plain band, attracting more attention. They're also a terrific technique to make a tiny core diamond more dramatic.

Eternity Band

Eternity band isn't really a setting, but rather a band style. The word eternity relates to the 'eternal' presence of stones prevalent throughout the band. The predecessor of an engagement ring, often given as eternity or promise rings. They are usually less expensive, yet they still offer a unique effect.

Because this ring can be worn with a wedding band or engagement ring, the style can be coordinated with those rings. The never-ending circle of diamonds represents eternal love.

Halo Setting

It's a halo setting, as the name implies. A concentric circle of stones forms a halo around a focal stone. This setting is commonly used with diamonds to make the primary stone appear larger and brighter. They're generally coupled with a pavé setting to give the impression that the diamonds are endless. Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is now wearing one of the most famous halo setting rings. Princess Diana wore the ring earlier. A huge sapphire is encircled by a halo of lesser diamonds.

The ring is said to be inspired by Queen Victoria's sapphire brooch. The halo diamonds will increase the overall brilliance and sparkle of the ring, complement a range of diamond shapes, and are completely adjustable. The halo diamonds will increase the overall brilliance and sparkle of the ring, complement a range of diamond shapes, and are completely adjustable.

Split-Shank Setting

This is more of a setting than a style. The band or section of a ring that wraps around your finger is referred to as the shank. This band separates into two distinct metal links to the stone in a split-shank style. This can give a ring a fluid delicacy, while also adding refinement and symmetry. They nearly point you to the center diamond, which helps to focus your attention on it.

They also have smaller diamonds set along the split shank, as well as intricate metal ornamentation. The split shank complements a wide range of diamond shapes, making it a very adaptable alternative. The split shank style is a simple approach to making your ring stand out.

Infinity Engagement Ring Setting

An infinity ring setting is a one-of-a-kind design comprised of two interlocking bands arranged in a figure-eight pattern. The infinity shape on the metal shank is a symbol of eternity and everlasting love. Any gemstone or diamond form can be put in an infinity setting.

The curving form draws the eye to the center stone and gives an engagement ring extra sparkle. Smaller diamonds in a pavé setting can be added to the infinity shape to provide even more sparkle to this already distinctive design.
